The Keystone College Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory will offer a four-week summer schedule which began on Wednesday, July 17, and continues each Wednesday and Friday evening from 9 – 11 p.m. through Friday, August 16. The sessions are provided free of charge as a service to the community. Advanced registration or reservations are not required.
Following a brief talk which changes weekly, participants will be able to observe the Moon, planets, star clusters, and the Milky Way through telescopes. Groups larger than 20 people, such as school classes, scouts, and community organizations, may reserve a Monday night for private visits.
All sessions will be held outdoors or in unheated Observatory buildings so visitors should dress accordingly. Insect repellent is also recommended. There will be a short presentation before each session and presentations will change weekly. Severe weather conditions will cancel events.
The Thomas G. Cupillari ’60 Astronomical Observatory opened in 1973 and continues to offer visitors a unique, ideal rural setting with low artificial light interference for maximum nighttime viewing. The observatory is located at the intersection of Route 107 and Hack Road, approximately two miles west of Interstate 81, exit 202, approximately two miles east of Fleetville, and seven miles from Keystone main campus.
